Direct X 11.1 is Windows 8 exclusive

0It was revealed via a reply from an engineer on Microsoft’s Developer Network forum, that Microsoft’s DirectX 11.1 will only be available exclusively for Windows 8 and above, citing that there are no plans for the latest Direct X version to be to be made available on Windows 7 – source
This information should come as no surprise to those already around when Vista launched as Microsoft made it’s latest Direct X platform of the time, Direct 10 a Vista exclusive.
DirectX 11.1 is set to make significant changes to the graphics API — most notable of which is the native support for stereoscopy (read: 3D glasses support). Majority of games who will not support this technology however will benefit in terms of performance tweaks and additional visual postprocessing.
