Facebook releases Official Desktop Messenger

0Without the usual fanfare of new feature releases or redesigns of existing ones (the Timeline, etc), Facebook has released the Facebook Messenger for Windows.
The official messenger app will allow you to chat with your facebook friends, see the latest updates, get quick notifications from your news feed, send out poker game invites to your buddies right in the comfort of your desktop, web browsers need not apply.
The application is simple enough to use. All you need to do is download and install it then login to your facebook account. Once logged in you will see a list of your friends just as on the undisableable chat sidebar on the main site and you can click on their row to start chatting. With regards to notifications, clicking on the tickers for will launch your default browser and automatically sign you into your account in a similar fashion to what Dropbox is doing when you choose Launch Dropbox Website from it’s right-click context menu.
The official desktop messenger for facebook is currently only available for Windows 7. No word on a release date for XP compatible builds or Mac versions of the application.
