First Ubuntu-powered smartphone ships in 2014

Canonical has officially announced Ubuntu mobile, the much more mobile version of Ubuntu which is built around the current Android kernel and driver release. The main difference is that it doesn’t rely on Google’s own Dalvik JVM but rather native linux.


Ubuntu for Android promises to use “the full power of the phone”, take a gander at the Verge’s first hands-on with a smartphone running Ubuntu:

The very first Ubuntu powered phones expected to start shipping in 2014.
