With a lot of fans disgruntled at the Oracle Paul the Octopus’, prediction of Germany’s loss at the World Cup, it wasn’t a surprise that a whole bunch of them want to see the iconic creature get turned into Paella. Seriously.
Paul the Octopus is a 2 year old octopus that has been predicting the outcome of Germany’s World Cup matches since the 2008 EUFA European Football Championships. So how exactly does Paul does is prediction? He is presented with two clear boxes placed into his tank, one carrying Germany’s flag and the other for the opposing team. Paul studies both boxes, and proceeds to climb into the box of the team that is to win the match.
To date, Paul’s predictions are still 100% accurate.
For the World Cup 2010, Paul declared that Germany was to beat Argentina, drawing the Argentinians’ ire, calling for the mollusk to be turned into Paella. When Germany lost 1-0 to a Spanish header goal, The Germans agreed with the Argentineans, calling for Paul to be boiled, beaten, eaten, and turned into a seafood dish. To date, hundreds of recipes for Paul’s dishes quickly appeared all over the Internet.
Jose Zapatero, the Spanish Prime Minister has joked he will send an envoy to ensure that the Germans do not eat the octopus.
Poor Paul
His fate however, is still on hold as the world hangs on the edge of it’s seat for the match on Monday, June 12 for the World Cup Championship match when Netherlands vs Spain.
