In lieu of Ramadan, the holy month of fasting for our Muslim brothers, Malacañang has declared September 10 a non-working holiday.
President Aquino (PNoy) has signed Proclamation 26, declaring September 10 as a non-working holiday. On this day, Muslims all over the world will celebrate the “Eid ul-Fitr,” or the festivities for the end of Ramadan.
For the uninitiated, “Eid” is an Arabic word meaning “festivity” while “Fiṭr” means “to purify.” Thus, “Eid ul-Fitr,” literally means a festivity of purification. Ramadan is a religious observance which encompasess the ninth month of the Islamic calendar.
This year, the festivities began August 11 and will end on September 10.
