Vizio goes after Nexus tablets with new stock Android slates

A pair of new tablets from Vizio is set to go after the Nexus 7 and Nexus 10 markets featuring competitive specs and the stock Android experience.

The 10-inch slate is powered by Nvidia’s new Tegra 4 chip and drives a 2,560 x 1,600 display coupled with 32GB of storage, NFC and dual 5MP / 1.3MP cameras. The 7-inch version uses the older Tegra 3 chip and has a meager resolution of 1,280 x 800 and lacks an NFC chip.

Vizio CTO Matt McRae says he thinks Android has improved to the point where it doesn’t need to be skinned anymore, and says that their new tablets will be shipping with Android 4.2 out of the box.

No word on release date and pricing but as Vizio is aiming to steal the market from Google’s own Nexus line, it’s safe to assume that they’ll be pricing it aggressively against them.
